Advanced Kollel

Established in 2007, the Advanced Kollel for Leadership is an elite study program for a select group of graduates from Rabbi Steinsaltz's Yeshivat Hesder.  The Kollel trains ten outstanding fellows annually in the Steinsaltz approach to Talmud, Jewish philosophy, Chassidut, and Jewish peoplehood.

Kollel graduates are expected to become scholars, teachers, and rabbis committed to leading and educating the Jewish community. The Fellows of the Advanced Kollel also serve as Rabbi Steinsaltz's research assistants for several major publishing projects, such as the Maimonides Project, his massive undertaking to update Rambam's Mishneh Torah to reflect the contemporary halachic experience and his research on the intersection of science and religion. As Rabbi Steinsaltz's new scholarship refocuses contemporary Jewish thought to reflect the modern world, the Fellows will experience - and be shaped by - the Rabbi's exceptional perspective.

Each Fellow is expected to receive rabbinic ordination by the end of the three year program. The Kollel program is housed in the Steinsaltz Center in Jerusalem.
