Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav (1772-1810) is one of the most original and outstanding thinkers to have emerged from the hasidic world. In his short life, marked by physical and mental suffering, he not only produced several masterpieces of religious writing and spiritual tradition, but also established a movement that, to this day, remains faithful to his teaching and personal leadership.
Despite the passage of time and the changes of literary taste, Rabbi Nachman's spiritual legacy has remained of fundamental significance to all who study the hasidic way. His writings and the tradition of his followers paint the portrait of a truly remarkable man.
